Pet insurance in India: what's actually covered (and what isn't)
By Editorial Team· 25 May 2026· 5 min read
Pet insurance is a young category in India. Premiums are low (₹3,000-8,000/year for dogs), but exclusions are extensive. Read the fine print.
What's typically covered
Accidental injuries, illness-related vet bills, surgery, hospitalisation. Some plans add third-party liability if your dog injures someone.
What's not covered
Hereditary/genetic conditions in pure breeds (a Labrador's hip dysplasia, a Pug's breathing issues), pre-existing conditions, routine vaccinations, dental treatment, and elective procedures.
